Care Plus® DEET is the most effective insect repellent for the skin. The active ingredient is effective against a wide range of pathogens, including (malaria) mosquitoes and ticks. DEET provides protection for up to 10 hours to prevent bites and stings. DEET is recommended for travel destinations where there is a risk of malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, chikungunya, yellow fever or West Nile virus. DEET is suitable for all destinations, near and far from home. The percentage of DEET determines its duration of action.

The active ingredient DEET is effective against biting insects and ticks. DEET is most effective against (tropical) mosquitoes and ticks. The percentage determines the duration of action of the substance.

What is DEET?

DEET is an abbreviation for N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide. However, the name N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide has recently been replaced by N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide, but you will encounter both names. Care Plus® DEET is available in 50% cream and spray, 40% spray and 30% spray and gel.

One 60 ml bottle is sufficient for 1 person when used daily as directed for 2-3 weeks. Care Plus® recommends a DEET concentration of 30-50%. Insect repellents with a concentration of less than 30% are not effective and concentrations greater than 50% provide no added value. For proper protection, it is important to apply Care Plus® DEET to all exposed skin.

Care Plus® DEET spray was awarded the title "Best product in the test" by the Dutch Consumer Association in 1997 and by the Belgian Consumer Association (Test-Aankoop) in 2001. Care Plus® DEET cream was awarded the grade "GOOD" by the German Stiftung Consumer Test 2004 (50% fat), Care Plus® DEET gel was also awarded the title "Best product in the test" in the Dutch Consumer Association test 2005.

How to use Care Plus® insect repellent DEET?

We recommend covering as much of your skin as possible with clothing. It is best to wear long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. For optimal protection against bites and stings, we recommend applying Care Plus® Insect Repellent with DEET (Natural or Sensitive) to all exposed skin. Distribute evenly with the palm of your hand. To protect the face, apply a small amount with your fingers. Always keep the palms of your hands clean of DEET products when eating and drinking. For children, do not apply insect repellent to body parts, such as hands and arms, that can easily come into contact with the eyes or mouth. For daytime use, apply the product to the skin 10 minutes before exposure to direct sunlight. In combination with sunscreen, apply sunscreen 30 minutes and insect repellent 10 minutes before exposure to the sun (20 minutes after sunscreen). Wash protected skin areas thoroughly with soap when you no longer need protection or experience side effects.

Is the insect repellent DEET safe for children?
Young children actively explore their environment. They tend to put things in their mouths. Since 2012, Care Plus® has added a bitter, odorless ingredient called Bitrex® to all DEET products. This reduces the risk of children swallowing the insecticide.

Can I use the product during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Risk groups such as pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 13 years of age should not use DEET products. Instead, choose Care Plus® Insect Repellent Natural, which is based on extract from the lemon eucalyptus tree (Citriodiol). This effective insect repellent can be used on children over 3 months. If this option is not available, use Deet 30% products.

How do I apply Care Plus® Insect Repellent DEET?
Make sure that Insect Repellent DEET does not come into contact with broken skin (wounds, burns), eyes, nose, nostrils, lips or other mucous membranes. Do not apply insect repellent under clothing or on areas where the skin folds, such as the back of the elbows and knees. For children, avoid using Insect Repellent DEET on areas where the skin can easily come into contact with the eyes and mouth, such as the palms and arms.

How does DEET work against mosquitoes and ticks?
The active ingredient DEET is an ideal mosquito repellent. Care Plus® offers a wide range of effective mosquito repellents containing DEET. Do you want to buy an effective mosquito repellent? The insect repellent DEET is a powerful protection against the common Culex mosquitoes and the rarer Aedes and Anopheles mosquitoes, which cause most diseases. DEET also protects the user against ticks.

How to use the insect repellent DEET in the sun?
Apply the product to the skin 10 minutes before exposure to direct sunlight. In combination with sunscreen, apply sunscreen 30 minutes and insect repellent 10 minutes before exposure to the sun (20 minutes after sunscreen). You are now optimally protected.
